Amanda Penk

Class Teacher

Amanda started teaching in mixed age classes in small village schools. She then moved to Bodmin where she worked for 10 years. Firstly as a Nursery teacher, then special educational needs coordinator, and later as a special educational needs class teacher. In May 2019 Amanda joined St Columb Minor Academy as a special educational needs teacher.

Why did Amanda choose teaching?
Amanda initially trained as an early years teacher. She believes in the importance of good quality foundation years. Which set the children up with the skills and inspiration to be interested, independent learners, who care for themselves, their peers and the world around them. In practice Amanda looks at what a child can do and builds from there to their next steps of progress. It was valuing each individual and supporting them to achieve their best that lead Amanda into teaching children with additional needs.

Outside of school:
Amanda enjoys time with her family, friends and animals. She loves wildlife and walking in the countryside or on the coast. In the Summer Amanda relaxes at the beach, usually on the south coast as she is not very brave with waves!

Most unusual unknown fact about Amanda:
Amanda has been up each of the highest mountains in mainland UK, Scafell, Snowden, Ben Nevis and of course Brown Willy. Next challenge Slieve Donard in Northern Ireland!
